I Failed at Zero Waste Living

So I failed at zero waste living... kind of. I think there's some stuff I've done a really good job with and some stuff I've done not a good job with... but I'm excited to be back here on UA-cam to reignite some sustainability and zero waste content. My goals for this channel are to create a zero waste pantry and do a cost comparison on those items, create a data driven sustainable and minimal ...

Switch the funky smell for a wino's smell and drive home.
love my safety razor
Girly in Mexico we love to do that as a snack. I like that u like it bc anyone that did not eat, would make fun of us.
For those looking at supplements, it's important to note that most people don't need supplements, supplements aren't regulated by the FDA and may not contain what they same (or may have it in a form that humans can't absorb), and the best nutrition comes from your diet. It may be more beneficial to meet with a nutritionist since everyone has different dietary needs and limitations. Many people cannot thrive on a vegetarian or vegan diet for a prolonged period of time, so it's especially important to meet with a nutritionist if you want to adapt to those diets.
Unfortunately, this technique did not work on my Trader Joe's Coconut Oil jar. Maybe TJ's do not want their labels removed. Thanks for the video. I've seen this recommendation many times and it works for so many people.
You look like Liv Tyler!
its straight up a scam product. it doesnt make compost. it only increasses your crabon footprint by wasting energy and in time, that lomi is gonna become landfill waste.
How wonderful you are back. I found one of your videos years ago, on your website, it was a 'blah # of outfits from blah # of clothing items' and it was so good! It's also refreshing to hear your honesty about the challenges that zero wasters have faced over the last few years. The pandemic did the same thing to me, I ended up just shopping at the supermarket. It was too much to deal with during the pandemic (I also have a special needs child to care for). And once these great habits are damaged, it's so hard to get back to it. I really look forward to your new series, and I'll try to join you where I can 🎉
love this. I feel like I've had to be willing to give up certain things that maybe costed extra money if I wasn't able to afford it at the time and just try to only pick a few things to focus on until i am able to have that job that would provide more for me
Just out of curiousty what is the actual waste reduction throughout the whole supply chain? I get that they make it 0 waste at the customer front, but if all they do is just unpack it, throw the packing and fill a pump bottle for customers to shop from no actual waste is reduced.
My guess is that all of it comes in bulk containers that are compostable/recyclable/reusable which would reduce because they aren't packaging everything individually. At least this is what I hope. I have worked at Target and a lot of the "green" dish brushes came invidually wrapped in plastic so I wouldn't put it past companies to do that either.
@@xTashleyx yeah that's what I wish would happen. But my pessimistic side says that if that was the case it would be front and center in their marketing.
I found your channel while I was looking for zero waste videos on UA-cam 💚
Can I ask how often do you use the tub scrub? Once a month? Two?
I want a gel or liquid (DIY) toilet bowl cleaner recipe; so if you continue this video series that would be helpful.
I swapped to eco friendly wood veneer
Hey there, I love your channel but I’m pretty sure mixing vinegar and hydrogen peroxide creates paracetic acid which can be dangerous and toxic!
Yes! It’s really not good for you. Also mixing vinegar & baking soda dilutes the cleaning power of both - the only time it’s useful is when the bubbles have a mechanical effect, like creating pressure in a blocked drain or expanding the product into a hard to reach surface.
ratio of each ingredient for tub scrub please?
I use eco friendly laundry sheets for laundry.
Laundry sheets have plastic in them.
@@WillowofMoonHaven look at true earth made in canada
Walking with a bag full of filled glass containers sure sounds like a work out.
STOP ADDING SUGAR. I make mine with just water
Yay! I need to try that tub scrub, your caddy is so cute
tip, the lomi is worse than just throwing your things outdoors. it only desiccates your waste and grinds it. it dose not make it into composte or anything like that. the second you put it outdoors like in the video, it will take up mositure and be basicly the same thing as it was before. and at the end of the day, you just wasted a LOT of energy for nothing. as boiling away water is super energy intensive, youre just increasing your carbon footprint for nothing
Your tub scrub combination is what I use on our doggy after she has “played” with her black and white “friends”. 🦨
Yessss. I love videos like this! I use rubbing alcohol on everything lol. Any suggestions for laundry detergent (there's so much noise out there about diy laundry detergent) and for shower glass? I'm about to move into an apartment with glass shower doors - was just going to use my rubbing alcohol spray bottle, but curious if you have any other recommendations. Thank you!
I use a razor blade to clean/scrape hard water marks on my glass shower door. If you want a solution, I use citric acid powder 1 tablespoon and two, 1/4 cups of water and mix it into a stray bottle.
Wooo first comment!
tabouli :D
Огромное спасибо за видео. Сделала, все работает отлично! Здоровья и усрехов
I unfortunately dont have something like that I live in Greece and the whole idea of zero waste seems so far away from the locals here The only place that you can bring your own jars os the nut store and the farmers market
While i agree about everything ive failed far to many times with fixing socks i still end up buying new ones 🤦♀️
Ty my roses are insane this year
😯 thank you!
I had a leather choker, she was DEAD full on DEAD, i saw the exact same one at the shop but yk what i did i got my old girl outta my drawer, duct taped over her, shes beautiful now
Wow. Good. : ) I think i would keep some art items there like a paper plane or snow globe or drawing. Thanks for your videos : )
what do you mean sustainable? I like it I guess but what do you mean by that cuz like you had to buy more stuff lol
Sustainable as in this organization will be kept up
Maybe she means that it’s now organized in a way that she can keep up with and won’t get out of hand - that’s also a kind of sustainability. Even if not, she’s clearly shopping second hand in this video and only for baskets that can be reused in multiple ways.
Hi. She is in fact a leading personality in waste management, sustainable usage of resources, reducing plastics, reducing single use or non biodegradable plastics, reducing overdependence on petrol, diesel etc. She has written a book and articles and has made many videos. She is practising a zero waste lifestyle. So she tries to reduce wastes as much as possible within food items, grocery items, different purchases choosing the items which have no plastic or environmentally sustainable items. She often suggests to read ingredients and try to consider alternative options. So by sustainable here, she likely means to have brought jute or bamboo baskets and old shoe boxes as shelves to keep her items. She avoided plastic baskets and put her old shoe box as a basket instead of throwing it away. I hope this helped some how
@@KyiecutieYour profile picture is cute
@@chethakmp3 okay but how is that demonstrated in this she said that this is a sustainable way of doing her closet but she bought stuff from Michaels or something which is mass produced and the plastic drawers are like from Target, some kind of standard petg I just don't think it's exactly like applicable to this video that she just made. also any person who says they're about sustainability and they're against diesel has absolutely no idea what the fuck they're talking about. diesels incredibly efficient in comparison to electricity. like do you know how batteries are made do you know how electricity is made and how it's stored and how it gets moved around But I digress
The mix and match of containers make it so cute!
All are cute! My favorite one is the white dress. Does Thredup charge for shipping and how easy are returns?
You can also cut out the designs of christmas cards to make new ones :)
I have a drawer full of saved wrapping paper from gifts that I reuse! Both from things gifted to me, and that others didn't want to keep from their gifts 🥰
Good job. Congratulations. : )
Wow. Wonderful video. : ) It's great you are trying so much to reduce wastes. My favourite was all of them. All look good. : ) Thank you so much : ) I have started bringing food parcels in steel boxes by following your advice from your book. Thank you so much : )
Heyy, 1k! :)
yeah let’s put all our face products on the bathroom floor that’l get everything clean right
You’re acting like shes pouring everything out of the containers straight onto the floor lmao 🤦🏽♀️
Or things that need to be charged that you don't use everyday
Rechargeable batteries if you have any
Non toxic goo be gone: veg oil and backing soda mix to a paste and scrub on! Works so well
love this video!!!
I just discovered you through googling “zero waste” And you were one of the top websites that popped up 🙏🏾
This was helpful af. My Chipotle bussin swell now lol thanks!
Natracare makes pads that are compostable and biodegradable. They’re made out of 100% plant materials and use organic cotton 😊 Period panties are often made out of polyester, nylon, or rayon. All of which are toxic. I recommend organic cotton underwear with a natracare pad 💕(Pact makes amazing organic underwear)
Dear period panties are as worse. Research their pufa
Wonderful
